We cause things to happen to us, we make our successes and conversely, our failures. So what makes us successful? As you read this post, dear reader, I'd like you to reflect upon a time in your life when you have been successful and apply these principles. Reflect how you had applied these principles to that successful moment. Then ask yourself about how you can use those learnings in your on-going journey. I hope you find this an interesting and useful read.

1. Know your outcome. What specifically do you want to achieve, and more importantly, why do YOU want to achieve this? Your outcome must bring you something positive; make a difference for YOU.

2. Take action. This to my mind is one of the most crucial principles of success. Take the first step towards making your endeavour successful. If you don’t, it will always remain an unattainable dream.

3. Pay attention to your surroundings. Use your 5 senses to notice the effect of your actions. Are the results what you want and will these results lead you towards your outcome?

4 Be flexible. Be attached to your outcome, not to your behaviours. Be ready to make changes to your state of mind and your behaviours if your current behaviours are not bringing you to your outcome. A great person once said, “foolishness is doing the same things and expecting a different outcome”.

5. Operate from a physiology and psychology of excellence. Pay attention to what you are thinking, what are your beliefs about the outcome. Are you convinced about its success, are you convinced that this outcome is absolutely right for you? How are you holding yourself? What is your body language conveying to others about your beliefs and your thoughts?

Start today with the first step. Think about something you want to achieve and write out the outcome that you wish to get. Be SMART with your outcome. Drop me a note if you want to run it by somebody.
